Top 5 baby essentials for a minimalist parent

The journey of becoming a parent for the first time can be daunting and stressful. You may even start to feel the need for everything to be perfect, so parents often tend to go overboard in preparing things for their baby.

To make sure that the baby has it all without even having to ask for it, parents buy everything that is there to buy. Ironically, that’s not being a better parent but an impulsive one.

There’s a lot out there you don’t actually need for a newborn baby but this also doesn’t mean you need nothing.

If you’re still reading this, we love you for your patience. Continue reading and you’ll get our Top 5 Baby Essentials for your newborn. Let’s bridge the confusion between too much and nothing.

1. Nappies

This is the most basic requirement for every newborn.

However, even with this basic essential, mothers face difficulty in choosing between reusable or disposable nappies.

There have been reports of children reacting to ingredients in traditional disposable nappies. However, reusable nappies, on the other hand, are safer since you get to choose the type of material that suits your child.

Cloth nappies are highly affordable and eco-friendly, while disposable nappies are thrown after one use, you have the hassle of buying them regularly and at a huge expenditure.

Whether you choose cloth or disposable, nappies are part of the parenting experience.

2. Baby Carrier

Babies love being toted around by mum or dad. But if you have chores to complete, it’s near impossible to carry them in your hands for hours.

It’s also easy to be overwhelmed at the selection of baby carriers. There is no perfect carrier but if you are on a lookout for one that suits almost all your needs you can check out our Ergonomic 6-in-1 Baby Carrier. It provides the convenience of being able to go about your daily tasks hands-free with your baby resting with you.

Our baby carrier is a versatile carrier that allows you to carry your baby in 6 different ways. It is a unique, back-supporting carrier with an integrated seat for your baby to help you carry your little one significantly longer, more comfortably and effortlessly.

3. Car Seat

Childhood is an important time for healthy development, learning, and establishing the foundations for future wellbeing but it’s also a phase that involves a lot of vulnerabilities.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare land transport accidents (29%) which includes road traffic fatalities was one of the 3 leading causes of injury deaths among children in 2015–2017.

According to the
Australian Road Deaths Database, in 2018 among children aged 0–14, 34 deaths were due to road transport accidents, a rate of 0.7 per 100,000 children.

Road accidents lead to concussion in children that causes temporary changes in the way the brain works. Experts suggest that these concussions can be prevented through the use of proper child car seats, booster seats, and seatbelts. They should be used every time kids are in a car.

4. Muslin Wraps / Swaddles

New babies have very little control over their arms. Swaddling prevents your little one from whacking themselves in the face and getting even more upset. It also prevents them from startling themselves and disrupting sleep.

Swaddling also reduces SIDS and Suffocation Risk. Extremely low SIDS rate suggests that wrapping may help prevent SIDS and suffocation

In Australia, between 1990 and 2015 approximately 5,000 babies died suddenly and unexpectedly.

However, baby deaths attributed to SUDI have fallen by 85% and it is estimated that 9,967 infant lives have been saved as a result of the infant safe sleeping campaigns.

These infant safe sleeping campaigns were largely focused on spreading awareness about how mums can inculcate safe sleeping measures for their babies.

5. Basic Grooming Tools

A newborn baby’s fingernails grow surprisingly fast. The amount of snot from such a tiny thing is incredible. Keeping a nail trimmer handy is highly recommended. However, since baby nails are very delicate you might be anxious about hurting them. Our Electric Baby Nail Trimmer is the perfect tool to avoid that hassle. Its rotary filing function prevents harm to the baby's skin and nails.

Other grooming tools include a bulb syringe, a thermometer, and a hair brush.
